Making a Difference
in Children's Lives Today
Today's children face challenges that previous generations could not have imagined. In the United States, widespread prosperity has not resolved the issues that threaten the well-being and productivity of future generations.

Statistics like these show us that many of our children are in danger. They are in danger physically, in terms of th
eir health and safety. They are in danger educationally, particularly those who attend school in impoverished inner-city and rural areas. They are in danger emotionally, living in an unsafe world where the stability of families cannot be counted on. And around the world, in less developed countries, children struggle to survive in even more distressing conditions.

These statistics make it clear that compassionate adults must act decisively to improve the prospects for children to have healthy, happy, and productive lives. To meet that goal, in the year 2000 a group of committed individuals founded the Invest in Children Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding solutions to the problems threatening children's well-being.

Consider this "snapshot" of the state of America's children*:
1 in 8 will never graduate from high school; 1 in 2 will not complete even a year of college.

Children 12-17 are twice as likely as adults to be victims of serious violent crime.

547,000 children were in foster care as of March 1999. Approximately 117,000 of these
children are awaiting adoptive families.
